Get Started

Getting started with the ConCordia CS Hackathon is easy! Follow these steps to kick off your journey:

  1. Register on Devpost: Make sure you’re signed up for the hackathon on Devpost. This is where you'll submit your project and find all the necessary details.

  2. Form or Join a Team: Hackathons are more fun and productive when you collaborate. Use the Devpost platform to find teammates or form a team with friends and colleagues.

  3. Brainstorm Ideas: Think about the challenges developers face and how you can create solutions that others can build upon. Consider tools, APIs, frameworks, or platforms that can be extended by the developer community.

  4. Start Building: Once you have your idea, start coding! Whether you’re building a new app from scratch or enhancing an existing one, focus on making your solution accessible and easy for other developers to use and expand.

  5. Submit Your Project: When you’re ready, submit your project on Devpost. Make sure to include a clear description, any relevant documentation, and a demo video if possible. Submissions will be judged based on innovation, usability, and potential impact.

  6. Engage with the Community: Throughout the hackathon, join discussions, attend virtual meetups, and seek feedback from mentors and peers. This is a great opportunity to network and learn from others.

What to Build

For the ConCordia CS Hackathon, your challenge is to create apps or web apps that are not only functional but also extendable by other developers. Think about building tools, platforms, or frameworks that others can use as a foundation for their projects. Your project should aim to solve real-world problems or streamline the development process, making it easier for future developers to build upon your work. Consider focusing on:

  • Developer Tools: Create plugins, libraries, or frameworks that simplify coding tasks or enhance productivity.
  • APIs and Integrations: Develop APIs that offer valuable data or services that can be easily integrated into other projects.
  • Open-source Projects: Build an open-source project that others can contribute to and expand over time.
  • Educational Platforms: Design platforms or apps that help developers learn new skills or share knowledge.
What to Submit

When you’re ready to submit your project, make sure it includes the following:

  1. Project Title & Description: Provide a clear and concise title along with a detailed description of your project, including the problem it solves and how it can be extended by other developers.

  2. GitHub Repository: Share the link to your GitHub repository, where the source code is hosted. Ensure that your code is well-documented and easy to understand.

  3. Demo Video: Create a 2-5 minute video that showcases your project in action. Explain the key features, how it works, and its potential impact on the developer community.

  4. Documentation: Include any necessary documentation, such as setup instructions, usage guides, and any API references if applicable. Make sure other developers can easily understand how to use and build on your project.

  5. Optional: Deployment Link: If your app or web app is deployed, provide a link where it can be accessed and tested live.
